View Comments (1)Print ArticleEmail Article

As a service for audiologists to give to their patients, ADVANCE offers these patient education handouts first in the print version of the magazine, then online. Covering a variety of topics, the handouts speak to patients' concerns about conditions related to hearing and balance, and offer places to look for additional resources. If you have suggestions, email Editor Sherry Fox.

Regretfully, auditory processing problems don't always manifest themselves in children. They can be a latent occurrence in adults, compensated for early in life but not so in conjunction with a sensori-neural hearing loss. Speech recognition problems may seem unexplainably worse relative to the degree of hearing loss, skewing expectations with the use of amplification. This article paints auditory processing problems as only a childhood problem.
