Yes, audiologists have a similar education level as other doctors. If you begin a private practice, you may not make as much as you would like to, due to several factors. But if you do not flood your hands and expect everything to fall in your laps, in few years, you will make some money. I have been in practice since I graduated in 2003, and I made close to $75000 in my second year! It may not be like this every year, but if I work hard and stick by, it will pay off. So try it, why not!

Hi,

I am in the same boat as Jeff. Can anyone send me an answer to the same questions? It seems that audiologist have to now (since Au.D is the new requirement) spend more time in academics and still receive less pay than other professions (for instance, Optometry school is 4 years and the median salary is around the 90's). Could someone also comment on the rigor of audiology school? Coming from a business background, I have worked long, intense days and am wondering if an Au.D program would require the same amount of work, if not more.

Any advice, insights, or opinions are greatly appreciated.

To audiologists,

I am a student here at BYU and I am just doing an internship at a health and wellness center at Utah Valley State College. I am trying to decide on what I want to pursue at the graduate level and where. I have been looking into audiology and I would love to get some feedback on why you chose what you did, would you do something else, are you leading a financially stable life; i.e., what is the income of an audiologist, what are some the best schools with the audiology program, what kind of things can I get involved in while doins my graduate work. Any additional information would be awesome.
