In 1956, two Danish gentlemen--an engineer and an entrepreneur--started a little company named Widex. Mr. Christian Topholm had developed a hearing aid, known as the 561," and Mr. Erik Westermann joined forces with him to try to sell it. Their goal was to help people hear better, and they combined their skills with high values and hard work to make their new endeavor a success.
To say they found that success is a bit of an understatement.
Today, Widex A/S is the world's sixth largest manufacturer of hearing aids, still based in Denmark but now with operations in more than 100 countries and numerous sophisticated hearing devices in its product line-up. As the parent company celebrates its 55th anniversary in 2011, it has recently completed construction of a beautiful new headquarters that combines stunning architecture with green technology. Widex also has purchased its U.S. distributor and is in the process of implementing new management at Widex USA.
In a charming twist unusual in the modern corporate world, Widex A/S is still owned and operated by the two original families. Mr. Topholm's and Mr. Westermann's sons hold the top executive positions, and Mr. Topholm's grandsons are electronic engineers working for the company.
